List of the 2024 Global Best Sensor Awards
2024-08-10 10:07:00
On the morning of June 26 (afternoon of June 25, local time in the United States), during the Sensors Converge (formerly Sensor Expo), one of the world's three major sensor exhibitions, the organizers Sensors Converge and Fierce Electronics announced the list of the 2024 Best of Sensors Awards.
The Best Sensor Awards selection event has been held for 30 years, focusing on the best and most innovative products, technologies, teams and people in the sensor industry. It aims to recognize and promote widespread recognition of the industry's most transformative technologies and teams. The winners are selected by an expert jury based on the value of the product or individual to the market, the problems it solves or the impact of the problems it solves, and the uniqueness of the design.

Introduction to the winning sensor companies and products (Part 1)
Lam Research
AI/Machine Learning
Lam Research Equipment Intelligence® Solutions by Lam Research
The winning product is Lam Research Equipment Intelligence® Solutions, which helps customers accelerate technology transformation at a lower cost, with less resource consumption, while reducing waste. To achieve this, in addition to accelerating R&D to improve device performance, it is also necessary to find ways to achieve high-volume manufacturing (HVM) at a lower cost. Equipment Intelligence® has four pillar modules - digital twin/digital thread, virtual process development, smart equipment and digital services - which can integrate data modeling, virtualization and artificial intelligence (AI) into every aspect of designing, developing, purchasing, building and supporting systems and processes, from concept to feasibility study to HVM.

Sonair
Automotive/Autonomous
Sonair - a Breakthrough 3D Ultrasonic Sensor for Autonomous Robotics by Sonair
Founded in 2022, Sonair specializes in ultrasonic sensors that reduce the financial burden associated with automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs). The company claims that by using patented technology developed at SINTEF MiNaLab in Europe, its sensors can enhance the robot's vision from 2D to 3D, a significant improvement over traditional lidar and camera systems.
The imaging method of the award-winning new 3D ultrasonic sensor is beamforming technology, which is the basis of sonar and radar as well as medical ultrasound imaging processing. Sonair combines wavelength-matched ultrasonic transducers with cutting-edge software for beamforming and object recognition algorithms to obtain three-dimensional spatial information at a lower cost. Sonair describes the new 3D ultrasonic sensor as an alternative to expensive lidar (LiDAR) sensors, and the company expects the 3D ultrasonic sensor to be sold at 50% to 80% of the cost of lidar sensors.
Dracula Technologies
Cleantech/Sustainability
LAYER®Vault by Dracula Technologies
Dracula Technologies is a French startup founded in 2011 following a project with the public research organization CEA (Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives, or the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission). CEO Brice Cruchon saw the commercial potential of the technology, and after six years of research and development, LAYER launched the deep tech startup through the "Hello Tomorrow" program.
Award-winning product LAYER® Vault , Dracula uses organic photovoltaic (OPV, or organic solar cell) technology commonly found in inkjet printers to develop power supply technology. The OPV modules, called LAYER (or Light As Your Energetic Response), run indoors on natural or artificial ambient light and can be used to power low-consumption indoor devices. Because they are printed, rather than made of silicon, the shape of OPV modules is more easily customized, and unlike many batteries, it does not use rare earth or heavy metals. Instead, the modules are made of carbon-based materials.
Dracula Technologies has entered into a partnership with its investor SemTech, which provides semiconductors, IoT systems and cloud connectivity services. The LayerVault device is compatible with sensors based on the LoRa communication protocol developed and operated by SemTech. The new device can be integrated into the group's wireless connectivity chips and other products targeting low-power connectivity technologies.
Blecon
Connectivity
Blecon: Enabling Sensor IoT Connectivity with Bluetooth Low Energy by Blecon
Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Cambridge, UK, Blecon has launched a technology that overcomes the barriers to widespread IoT deployment using BLE.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology is an important technology for wireless connectivity of IoT and sensor devices. Although BLE's low power properties, functionality and robustness make it an ideal choice for industrial IoT deployment, there are also some problems. The need for device pairing and the requirement to relay data to the cloud through custom applications or gateways are among the several limiting factors that hinder the widespread adoption of this popular wireless protocol.
Blecon believes that it is time for the industry to start considering BLE as a viable cloud IoT connectivity protocol rather than the point-to-point approach used in consumer electronics. Blecon has improved BLE into a practical and straightforward IoT connectivity method and launched products and network services that can be used for design integration. Through its approach, Blecon aims to provide deployment models for Wi-Fi and cellular network models based on the low-cost, low-power capabilities of BLE.

Analog Devices
Edge Technology
Visual Servoing Using AI at the Edge with the MAX78000 Microcontroller by Analog Devices
Founded in 1965, Analog Devices (ADI) is a global leader in analog chips, manufacturing ADC, DAC, MEMS and DSP chips for consumer and industrial products.
The award-winning product is based on the MAX78000 microcontroller's edge AI visual servo (Visual Servoing Using AI at the Edge with the MAX78000 Microcontroller), ADI AI MCU MAX78000, which is an ultra-low power chip built in hardware CNN, dual micro-cores, memory, SIMO and multiple communication interfaces. MAX78000 is designed to provide the ability to execute neural networks with ultra-low power: the integrated hardware-based convolutional neural network (CNN) accelerator can perform AI reasoning (using pre-trained models) at very low energy levels.
